Fueki Shop: retro stationery products turned into soft-serve ice cream!

Let’s go to the specialty shop of “Fueki-kun”—the mascot character of the “Doubutu nori” products with which many Japanese people, if not most, are familiar.

Fueki-kun is a character with a distinctive adorable look and the mascot character for the Doubutu nori products. In Japan, many people have probably used the Fueki-kun's starch glue somewhere in their lives, and there is a Fueki-kun specialty shop called “Fueki Shop” in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. Under the concept of “a yellow world of happiness,” the shop brings happy vibes to those who step inside.

One of the most popular products is the soft-serve ice cream available only at Fueki Shop. You can pick an animal-themed container that you like and serve ice cream by yourself. There are four flavors to choose from, and you can enjoy it no matter how many times you visit because the shop offers a limited flavor every month. Another bit of good news is that you can take the container home, and it comes with a cap-shaped lid.

You should also check out their cosmetic products. The moisturizing cream and the cotton swabs in the animal-themed containers have a cute retro look. Even after using up all the cream or cotton swabs, you can continue to enjoy the adorable look by using the animal-themed container as a trinket box or as a room decoration, for example.

Fueki Cotton Swabs (110 swabs) / ¥990 (incl. tax) Each swab, which is colored in Fueki’s signature colors, has a positive message on it. From top: “すてきです” (meaning “you are amazing”), “なかよしです” (meaning “we are best buddies”), and “がんばるです” (meaning “wishing you good luck” or “hang in there”).

In addition, the store offers a wide selection of sweets, making it a great place to pick up souvenirs. With items such as konpeito(small coloured sugar candy covered in bulges), often given as a good-luck gift in Japan, and a collaboration with Pineapple Candy, which originated in Osaka, sure to find something you like.
