Four Japanese anime and manga exhibitions you should go to between September and November of this year!

Anime and manga exhibitions are a perfect opportunity for gaining a deeper understanding of Japanese culture. In this article, we would like to introduce four exhibitions to be held this year between September and November, including one that covers the entire history of the Evangelion series.
“Kaiju No. 8 Special Exhibition ”

It is the very first exhibition of Naoya Matsumoto’s popular manga “Kaiju No. 8.” It is guaranteed to be a special experience for the fans because it offers a unique concept which allows the visitors to enjoy the world of the manga while exploring the base as defense force candidates. It features about 120 pieces of framed illustrations, the “One Hundred Views of Kaijus” series depicting the everyday life of the world with kaijus, as well as life-sized equipment and weapons of the defense force members. It also features an extensive range of items such as illustrations, standing statues, and videos.

“30th Anniversary of the Serialization: Meitantei Conan Exhibition”

“30th Anniversary of Serialization: Meitantei Conan Exhibition” is packed with the history and charms of the “Meitantei Conan” series. It offers a wide variety of exhibits, such as one looking back at the history of the anime through the cover pages of the comic books, ones with the famous lines of the characters and romantic elements, and one that focuses on mystery, featuring ciphers and dying messages.
Of course, exhibition-exclusive original merchandise is also sold. If you are a “Meitantei Conan” fan, you definitely want to get your hands on the headbands to get into character as Conan Edogawa and Ran Mouri.

“Soul Eater 20th Anniversary: Original Drawings Exhibition”

A traveling exhibition titled “Soul Eater 20th Anniversary: Original Drawings Exhibition,” in celebration of the 20th anniversary of popular manga “Soul Eater,” is being held at two different venues in Tokyo and Osaka.

Over 300 pieces of original drawings are on display.
It allows you to immerse yourself in the fantastical world of the anime through various exhibits, including over 300 pieces of valuable original drawings by the author, Atsushi Ohkubo, as well as special videos featuring newly recorded voice-overs for the characters such as scythe meister girl Maka, magic scythe Soul Eater, and Crona.

“Evangelion Crossing Expo: A Triumphant Return to Tokyo”

“Evangelion Crossing Expo: A Triumphant Return to Tokyo” is an exhaustive exhibition which covers almost 30 years of history of the Evangelion series, from the TV anime series “Neon Genesis Evangelion” started in 1995 to “Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time” released in theaters in 2021. Get ready to be overwhelmed by the power of Evangelion through nearly 4,000 items that are on display!
It is a must-go exhibition as its exhibits include a life-sized figure of “Rei Ayanami (tentative title),” super-large “Spear of Longinus,” which is 3.5 meters tall and weighs 100 kg, and gigantic pieces such as a recreation of an exciting scene in which a “progressive knife” is being thrust into the core of an angel. Moreover, some limited products are available only at the Roppongi venue, and it will also open a café in which you can enjoy famous lines from the anime.
