A new museum named “teamLab: Hidden Traces of Rice Terraces” by teamLab is opening in September 30, 2024 where you can enjoy not only the fusion of nature and art, but also a hot spring, glamping, and more!
teamLab: Hidden Traces of Rice Terraces is located in Izura, Ibaraki-shi, Ibaraki Prefecture, where Okakura Tenshin, who made a great contribution to the development of modern Japanese art, spent his final years.
The museum is set in a former rice terrace site in a valley hidden deep in the forest of Izura. Rice terraces are tiered rice fields built on sloped land, and the museum has been designed to blend in with the rice terraces.

The best time for enjoying the museum is after dark. Time flows differently at the museum after the sun sets. Immerse yourself in an extraordinary experience that combines nature and art while pondering about the never-ending interaction between nature and humans since ancient times.

To coincide with the opening of the museum, they are also opening “Hidden Traces of Rice Terraces Hot Spring – Izura,” which has a glamping facility as well as a bath with hot spring water flowing directly from the source. You can stay either at the two-story cottage or at one of the glamping tents.
The first floor of the cottage features a forest-view living room and a bedroom, a semi-outdoor forest hot spring, and an outdoor deck extended from the living room. The second floor has another bedroom and a special room—an impressive room from which you can appreciate the view of the sunlit trees in the daytime and the view of the forest, which is turned into teamLab’s infinitely-expanding piece of art at night.
The glamping facility has been built by making use of the undulation of the valley, so it makes you feel as if you have wondered into an art forest when the lights are turned on at night. The stay there will truly be a special memory.

There is also a bath which not only uses hot spring water flowing directly from the source, but also is integrated into the former rice terrace site. The indoor bath is segregated by sex, and the outdoor bath is mixed sex where swimwear is required. Enjoy a slow and relaxing time at the forest art retreat.

teamLab: Hidden Traces of Rice Terraces, where you can savor art and nature at the same time, is distinctively different in its own unique way from other teamLab works such as “teamLab Planets TOKYO.”
teamLab: Hidden Traces of Rice Terraces is about three hours from Tokyo by train and taxi. We strongly recommend that you go there to enjoy a one-of-a-kind dreamy experience.
