Three amazing restaurants in Tokyo that serve scrumptious breakfasts

From authentic Japanese breakfast to multinational dishes—three highly-recommended restaurants in Tokyo for a special breakfast!
Katsuo Shokudo in Shibuya
Katsuo Shokudo’s specialty is Tekezurino Katsuobushi Gohan, which is rice topped with a generous amount of freshly hand-shaved honkarebushi (fermented dried bonito flakes). It is the best of the best! When you bring the steaming hot rice to your mouth with the honkarebushi, which is shaved by the owner right in front of your eyes, its fragrant aroma and deep umami spread in your mouth. Served with miso soup and small side dishes that go well with rice, the set meal lets you enjoy an authentic Japanese breakfast.
The restaurant is very popular and always has a queue, so it is recommended to make an online reservation in advance. Located about seven minutes’ walk from Shibuya Station in an area beyond the bustling city center, it is guaranteed that the katsuobushi rice will be an unforgettable taste once you try it. The generous amount of bonito flakes looks appetizing.

The owner, Katsuo-chan, herself shaves bonito flakes for you.
Isshoku in Yoyogi Uehara
The next one is an onigiri (rice ball) specialty shop called Isshoku. This takeout-only shop serves a wide variety of onigiri that changes daily. Asa Set (morning meal set), which is served only in the morning, comes with two kinds of onigiri and asazuke pickles. Under the philosophy of “serving food that can help people have at least one good meal a day,” which is reflected in the shop name, Isshoku (meaning “one meal”), they make no compromises in choosing rice and seasoning, such as additive-free ingredients.
Located in a quiet residential area, about eight minutes’ walk from Yoyogi Uehara Station, the shop lets you enjoy a sense of ease with their plump and warm, homely Japanese onigiri. It is a perfect spot for taking a nice little break during your trip.

For Asa Set, you can choose two kinds of onigiri.

They serve not only onigiri, but also a variety of side dishes.
SUKE6 DINER in Asakusa
The last one is SUKE6 DINER (pronounced “suke roku diner”) in Asakusa, a popular restaurant known for its multinational breakfast dishes, including a combo with an omelette and homemade bread baked on the third floor, as well as a colorful avocado toast. The interior of the restaurant is lit by the natural light coming through the large windows under the high, vaulted ceiling, and you can enjoy a unique sense of openness where Asakusa’s old town vibe and a stylish café culture meet.
It is easy to access as it is only about three minutes’ walk from Asakusa Station, so why not stop by during your time in Asakusa and enjoy a lively breakfast?

The popular English Breakfast is served all day.

It is also nice to dine at a terrace seat when the weather is nice.
Visit any of these restaurants during your trip for an extraordinary breakfast experience. Enjoy their breakfasts that satisfy both stomach and mind for a wonderful start to the day!
